Battery Details.

The differences between LR and SR cells:

LR cells are Alkaline Manganese based and have a lower energy density or capacity and are 1.5volts.
SR cells are Silver Oxide based, have a higher energy density or capacity and are 1.55volts.

Could this be the most prolifically named size of battery in the world?

Physically the same dimensions as the Blue Hearing Aid battery and shares the "675" and "44" numbers. The Blue hearing aid battery is a possible replacement for the MR44 in devices that are not air tight.

Some sources list this as "86A" & "GP86" while other sources cross reference the LR43 as "86A" & "GP86". Both are 11.6 mm diameter, the difference being the thickness; 4.2 mm for LR43, 5.4 mm for LR44.

Alkaline or Silver Oxide replacement for the banned Mercury type.

If you require voltage compatable replacement then the WeinCELL MRB675 is a custom Zinc Air battery designed to replace banned Mercury batteries. Unlike 1.5 volt Alkaline replacements such as the LR44 whose unstable output can produce exposure errors, WeinCELLs deliver the same 1.35 volts and stability of output as did the mercury batteries. The MRB675 is designed to replace Mercury PX675 and MR44 batteries and is commonly used in cameras and exposure meters. WeinCELLs are only suitable for cameras and light meters, they are not suitable for watches.

adaptorAnother option for the accurate 1.35 volts is the MR44 Adaptor from the Small Battery Company. Possibly the best solution to problem of the discontinued Mercuy MR44 and equivalents. The MR-44 Adapter has the outer dimensions of the MR44 Mercury cell with a recess that takes the inexpensive and easily obtained Silver Oxide 392 cell. Within the MR-44 Adapter are micro electronics that drop the voltage from the 1.55 volts produced by the Silver Oxide cell to the 1.35 volts that your equipment was designed for.
